In general a solution to achieving this more easily without clipping masks and flattening to foreground would be appreciated.

I think stamp cropping (as described in a different post) would do the same, but "erasing" instead also allows for more complex shapes cut out of the stamp.
Seriously this opens up so many possibilities. Why isn't this here?

What exactly do you mean with eraser tool?
A) Remove stamps with a brush like eraser?
B) Erase parts of a stamp

Hi there! Just a friendly reminder that we're keen to understand your feedback better but haven't heard back from you yet. Could you please provide a bit more detail within a week? Without further clarification, we might have to archive your request to keep things tidy. We really value your input and look forward to your response. Thanks a bunch!
I have tried a couple of times to create partial versions of stamps by applying clip masks and then grouping them, but the clip mask will still clip stamps outside the group. See the attached screenshot.
I would like to have an option to make the clip mask "group only" so that I can put groups like this on top of other stamps.
There is a lot of assets where I only want part of it, and masking can sometimes be annoying depending on the asset and use for it.
I want be able to cut the part of the asset when I place it so I use what I need.
For example: The titan hand in fantasy battlemaps, I want to be able to cut out the bottom palm so I can have just the fingers

I would like it if we could erase (with the full range of possible opacity levels) parts of stamps (and un-erase where needed) to fully integrate them into a scene.

I find this here more useful than cropping stamps.

Until they do something like this you can just use the masc tool and group it with the stamp

Clip Mask that shows the assets below
A clip mask, or other feature that allows to add holes to a stamp, so the stamp below becomes visible.
(Example: Roofs with broken parts where the interior shows)
